Responses to the Questionnaire on Disability Priorities

How do you plan on working with disabled people in your community to hear concerns and work collaboratively on policy solutions?

I will openly engage with disabled residents in the community to learn more about their individual needs. I would create a disability task force to recognize where our disabled residents are, to assure that they have advocates to assist in making sure their daily living needs are sufficient, and that they have a good quality of life.

Why do you believe healthcare is a fundamental right of all people?

Healthcare is an essential to human dignity, equality and ability to fully participate in society.

Why do you believe it is important for disabled people to be a part of your governmental body’s employees?

People with disabilities are just as important as anyone else.

How do you envision the future of disabled residents in your community?

I currently see an uprise of people with mental health disabilities in our community, however if addressed expeditiously and properly, preventative measures could reduce the most common escalations of certain mental and physical disabilities. Some people are born with disabilities, others experience trauma, and some adopt bad practices that cause disabilities; as a leader I see an educated community eager to be healthy and work diligently towards achieving that goal. Providing attentive resources that foster positive reinforcement to a healthy lifestyle is paramount.
